Some beliefs don't deserve respect if they go against basic human rights or are just downright crazy.
Did anyone respect the Nazi's beliefs that is alright to gas 6 million jews?????????
praise gathering 2009 is taking place in glasgow this weekend.
we've been given tickets to tonight's concert as a gift.
to explain, praise gathering is a concert with a full orchestra and 400 singers.

During my brief time attending a church (Holy Trinity Brompton, Knightsbridge), the music was just incredible - it made me very emotional and was a real credit to the people involved - I remember being bowled over by the professionalism of it. Sounds like you'll have a good time PP. If we were around I'd babysit for you!!!
There's another member of this board who's had the same experience as you although her mum has come to her senses and admitted that any babysitter that sat for her kids when they were young never asked where she was going. She also accepts that this girl is no longer a JW and so what she does is completely her business. If the elders want to get involved, they can (this girl is not DF/DA'd). The mind control hasn't quite hasn't quite destroyed her reasoning ability obviously.
It's quite incredible how mean and unreasonable they can be whilst thinking they are doing the right thing. Cognitive dissonance at its very best. Any normal human being would view this as totally ridiculous.
Enjoy the concert. Hopefully one day your folks will wake up.
the past three weeks having been so stressful and very sad.
my ex husband died after being in hospital for just over a week in intensive care.. i was just 18 and he was 21 when we first met and after a whirlwind romance we married 6 months later and have two sons together who are now adults.
although our marriage ended after 25 years and i remarried 7 years ago, he was my first love and i knew him for most of my life.
Amazing letter Maddie. I hope it makes people think and speak out against this unbelievable cruelty.
Big hugs to you.
Sam x
i would like to know from everyone first of all what they think the difference is between a df'd person and a da'd person.. i would also like to know what everyone thinks that jw's think is the difference between a df'd and da'd person.. personally i am df'd.
i was df'd 10 years ago almost and did not argue it at all as i had no desire to continue as a jw anyway.
before being df'd i was always under the impression that if a person da'd themselves it almost always meant they were " apostate" and that there was no way a jw should have any contact with them.
To me, being DF'd (not sure what for though, never went to the JC - could be apostasy, could be going to a church, there wasn't anything else going on in my life at the time LOL) there is no difference. Having left the JW club, I have had the judgemental chip removed from my brain.
The way I feel now is that we are all fellow human beings and noone is any better than another.
Some humans still like to feel they are better than another, this is quite natural. It's why we still see divisions in the world due to religion, wealth, status, etc. I put it down to insecurity.
Having left I now feel more secure than ever and my friendships are not based on anything other than liking and respecting someone. Whether someone is co-habiting, gay, smoking, Christian, Athiest, it's all irrelevant. It's very liberating.
just found this board late last night and can't stop reading, it's fascinating.. let me give you a quick background of myself.
i was born a jw, never baptized, was labeled bad association when i was 12 due to having all worldy friends and smoking, lol.
i was very confused how being that young i could be labelled as that but i was.
Sorry about your grandma.
If there's one thing for certain in this life, eventually we lose everyone we love.
You will find all the information you need here online. No need for a study with JW's. If you ever decided to join their club, you'd have to sacrifice your real self for a cult self. There is nothing wrong with the way you are now and Armageddon is just a concept (and over ever mentioned ONCE in the scriptures, you'd think something that was so momentous would have a little bit more verses dedicated to it....).Also, if there was an all powerful God who really cared about us, it would be very easy to let us know that. Right now, the silence is deafening. The onus is on him to be in touch, not us as lowly humans who haven't a clue whether he's there or not.
(If you do have a study/go to a meeting, you'll no doubt be 'love-bombed' and then they'll drop you like a hot potato as soon as you're not interested again. Shallow relationships are us).
Enjoy the present, it is the most incredible gift from the Universe and all that's guaranteed (while we have it).
today's watchtower was nice.
under the heading:.
satan - a defiant adversary and apostate.
Bang goes my quarterly postcards from the Mother-in-law!
the first poll of britain's churchgoers, carried out for the sunday telegraph, found that thousands of them believe they are being turned down for promotion because of their faith.. one in five said that they had faced opposition at work because of their beliefs.. more than half of them revealed that they had suffered some form of persecution for being a christian.. the findings suggest a growing hostility towards religion in this country, which has been highlighted by a series of clashes between churchgoers and their employers.. and so on.

silver lining: there are still christians in gb!.
this thread is not about pro-life adverts

i don't get much chance to post on jwd, err, jwn anymore thanks to a major tightening of web policies where i work.. .
this place was a lifesaver for me.
i owe simon and the heavy-lifter posters of yore an enormous debt.. .
OM, you are the coolest!
You are an inspiration. There's no point in trying to convince you to deter your child from getting baptised - it's obvious you and your family all know what you're doing and are using the organsation to your own benefit 100pc. Hats off to you. Best of both worlds (almost - integrity?). Theocratic warfare meets its match.
Thanks for the update. It's good to hear how ya doin.
Besty, that is so funny. Thanks for the reminder. In Penge, there was never a dull moment.
I almost miss it.........
for the uk it was 275 (that they're willing to declare anyway).
i don't know how that compares with last year.. how about in your country?.
certainly make it difficult for aposta-collation efforts - but - inferences could be drawn from the USA and the other countries the religion has been longest established in - add in some Lagos numbers and you'd soon get to over 10,000 official....
